Champa Shetty

Champa Shetty has acted in several major theatre productions in Kannada such as ‘Mante Swamy Katha Prasanga’, ‘Huchcheeriya Hesarina Prasanga’ ‘Santhe yalli Nitha Kabira’, and ‘Siri Purandhara’ to name a few directed by eminent theatre directors like Suresh Anagalli, V Rama Murthy, Walter D’Souza at al. She has also appeared in television shows such as Kaveri, Papa Pandu, Paramapadha, Naaku Thanthi etc.

She is a voice artist for feature films and documentaries lending her voice to many major characters in over 500 movies in Kannada. She was awarded the Best Dubbing Artist, Karnataka State Award in the year 2007-08 for her performance in the movie ‘Kurunadu’.

Champa Shetty has directed two theatre productions in Kannada ‘Gandhi Banda’ and ‘Akku’, for the amateur theatre group, Ranga Mantapa. The play ‘Gandhi Banda’ is an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by H S Nagaveni, which has performed over 45 shows throughout India. The play ‘Akku’ is a concise version of three short stories written by Sahitya Akademi Awardee Vaidehi. Akku was conceptualized, visualized, dramatized and directed by Champa Shetty. The play has performed close to 50 shows. The film ‘Ammachi emba Nenapu’ is a script evolved from the play.
