N T Bhat

nt-bhatDr N T Bhat (Born 1939) interim Project Director of the Regional Resources Centre for Folk Performing Arts in Karnataka, since July 2000, is an alumnus of MGM College (B.A.-1959).  Between 1960 and 1968 he was Tutor in English in the college.  With an M.A. (External) from Aligharh Muslim University (1968), he was promoted as Lecturer in English.  In 1984 he became the head of the Department and retired in 1997 as Professor of English.  Along with his teaching of English he pursued the study of German language (M.A. 1980, Ph.D. 1990).  He has been a teacher of German in MGM College since 1971, having taught more than 29 batches of certificate course in German.  In 1993 he was awarded the Order of Merit by the President of Germany for his contribution to Indo-German understanding in the capacity of Founder Secretary of Indo-German Society, Manipal and editor of its Quarterly journal Kulturgespraech.  Well versed in Kannada, English and German he has several works of translation to his credit.  A monograph on Govind Pai published by State Sahitya Akademi is his original work in English.  He has translated ‘ Badukalu Kaliyiri’ of Swami Jagadatmanandaji and several works of Dr. Chandrashekhar Udupa of Divine Park, Saligrama.
