Padmavati Rao is an actor, translator, poet, children’s theatre playwright, puppet maker, puppeteer and storyteller. She works in theatre and film and has done work on television too and is known for her work in the series Malgudi Days. She has done theatre in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, English and Gujarati and films too in all these languages except Gujarati. She has translated four of Girish Karnad’s plays to Hindi. Her first collection of poems ‘Kuch Pyaar Kuch Tadap- Of Love and Longing’ was published recently. Her solo performance in Kitchen Poems has received critical acclaim. Padmavati has trained students in India and abroad and her teacher training workshops have been conducted across the country. She has spearheaded the Sarsayee Foundation for Theatre and Education to make learning and alternate livelihoods possible through theatre and natural farming bringing rural and urban folk, privileged and under privileged children to meet on a common platform and connect.
