Yashavant S Sirdeshpande is a popular theatre actor, playwright, director, column writer and scriptwriter. He was associated with the Karnataka Nataka Academy, Government of Karnataka. He has written and directed a few teleplays for Doordarshan and other channels as well. Sirdeshpande acted and directed more than 80 plays and has been called “Nageya Sardar” by Shimogga Theatre lovers, “Nage Natakagala” by Udupi Manipal people, “Nagegadala Navika” by Bellary art lovers and “Savirada Natakagala Saradam” by Qatar Karnataka Sangh. He has also written, directed and acted in movies like “Idea Madyara”, “Yarige Idly” and “Very Good 10/10”. Sirdeshpande has acted in many Kannada tele-serials and Kannada films, including Amruthadhare. He has published books like Geluve Namma Baduku, Gir Gir Girmittu, All the Best!, etc. He has participated in various events around the world like AKKA Sammelana Chicago, USA; Fifth World Kannada Cultural Convention 2008, Qatar; NAVIKA Convention, Los Angeles; Kannada Festival, Sydney, among many others. Sirdeshpande has served as the coordinator of events like the Thousand Years Khajuraho Celebrations in Madhya Pradesh and the Republic day Cultural Programs, New Delhi. He played the key role in organizing Amerikannadotsava and Bahrain Kannadotsava. Sirdeshpande has been honoured with many awards like the Aryabhatta award in 2003, Mayur award in 2005, Abhinaya Bharati award and Rangadhruva award in 2008, Globalman International award in 2008, and Rajyotsava Award, the highest civilian award in Karnataka, in 2010. He was also the recipient of the Sunfeast-Udaya award for Best Dialogues in 2006 for the film “Rama Shama Bhama”. Presently, Sirdeshpande is the Chairman of Bhumigeetha Media Pvt Ltd, Bangalore.
