Prof H S Shivaprakash is an author of nine books of poems, 15 plays and three critical works in Kannada, which are widely discussed, performed and translated into several Indian languages, and into English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Polish and Turkish.
He is a winner of several best book prizes from Karnataka Sahitya Academy for books of poems, translations and plays. His academic areas of interest include theatre and literary history, Indian theatre, medieval studies, comparative literature, translation and folklore. He is also a winner of the prestigious Rajyotsava Award from Karnataka State (2006) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from National Theatre Akademi (1997) and Sahitya Akademi (2012). He has participated in International Writing Program in School of Letters, University of Iowa, USA (2000). He was also the Editor of journals Indian Literature and the journal of National Akademi of Letters. He was the Dean of SAA, JNU and former Director of the Tagore Centre, Berlin, Germany. Currently, he is a professor of Theatre and Performance Studies, at JNU, New Delhi. He has travelled, lectured and read poetry in various countries in Europe, Asia and America.
